Both in the 2nd and 4th rounds the referee broke up the fight when Miura was on top. And at 15 seconds remaining in the 4th he declared it a TKO for Condit. I did not think this referee was fair at all. This should have gone for a fifth round.
I completely agree with the above post. Miura was in no danger of getting hurt when the fight was called. I’m very disappointed with the referee’s decision, as the fight could have gone either way.
Regarding the 2nd and 4th round break ups, could you imagine Dan Severn being told to advance his position. It’s called ground and pound.
Besides the TKO, the fight was very entertaining. I would like to see a rematch between the two, however, next time the Judge should let the fight go on.
miura won the fight the freakin ref stopped the fight to save condit who woulda got knocked out had the fight continued its the first fight that ive seen anyone give condit a run for the money. he threw condit around like a rag doll. sad that it was stopped.
I disagree with the remarks above. Carlos did not get thrown around like a rag-doll. I am not a Carlos Condit fan, I’m merely stating my observations about the fight. Carlos and Hiromitsu fought incredibly hard. Hiromitsu was able to use some wicked judo throws on Condit especially early on in the fight, but the majority of the time they took turns on top, and on bottom and taking each other down. Carlos at one point, drove Hiromistu all the way across the ring, and Miura could do little but hold on as Carlos pumped his legs and try a weak under the armpit punch at his face.
I am taking nothing away from Hiromistu by these comments. He fought very hard, I think his punchs generally looked more crisp than Condit’s and had he not taken the knee to the temple he very likely -could- have won the fight. The ending did not look like farce to me either. Miura was completely stunned, he was making no effort to defense himself other than a weak hand trying to cover the side of his face and he didn’t seem too terribly upset that the fight was stopped… as he rolled over and laid on the ground in a stupor.
Condit might have gotten lucky, but the ref didn’t win him the fight. Good fighters GET lucky. Live with it, stop complaining about the referee.
A re-match between these two guys would be a great fight to watch, and it’s very likely Hiromitsu could pull of an upset victory, which would be GOOD for WEC. War’s are a good thing for buisness… Rivalries are a good thing for buisness. WEC is not stupid, undefeated champions that just win -everything- are boring to watch and don’t make as good a headline.
All of you people with your conspiracy theories about the WEC, and Referees attempting to fix matches, need to shut up. It’s like trying to say that Elite XC - “fixed” the fight with Kimbo Slice to LOSE to a virtual unknown in under 30 seconds. Yea, cuz that’s good for buisness.
These companies don’t fix fights, because that -is- bad for buisness. Why would they try and fix the fights? There is no logical reason for it…
This fight was neither a farce, nor fixed. You might not like the outcome, but then I don’t like the fact that the Dodgers aren’t in the world series and the Patriots lost the Superbowl. Live with it, I sure learned how to.
Right on Morgan!Hiromitsua is a heavy/strong guy for this weight class and a judo stud…of course his punches were deadly and his throws were vicious. Condit was the usual smart/technical mastermind. I was surprised to see him losing the stand-up, but he was often in a dominant position reigning punches down, and almost ended the fight with a couple close submissions.
These guys were just dead after the third round. They wasted a lot of energy when Condit tried an arm submission, Hiro defended it and they kind of had a battle of wills. That was when you saw the rubber legs set in and neither guy popped up right away at the end of the round. Hiro’s punches looked snappier in the 4th, and he kind of went for broke and almost slipped and fell a couple times because he was so exhausted…he hid his exhaustion pretty well. Condit’s knee to the face looked so weak -but it’s all it took…Hiro was dog tired. Condit also timed it perfectly because Hiro was wide open for it after missing with the haymaker. It was probably the lamest knee Condit ever threw, but it was enough to stun Hiro in his weakened state. When the ref stopped the fight, Condit stood up on shaky legs, but Hiro simply could not stand for a few minutes - his body gave out.
The stop was totally legit and Condit proved that he had the mental tougness to survive when I thought for sure he was out of gas after the third round. Both fighters get a standing ovation for letting it all hang out! You also have to admit, Carlos proved that he has a hell of a chin. He doesn’t strike me as an iron-jaw type of guy, but he took some big hits and kept his wits about him.
I want to see Brock Larson and Hiromitsu go at it! They’re probably the strongest physically in the weight class and they throw bombs…serious fireworks!
The referee Josh Rosenthal ended the fight so the WEC wouldn’t lose their champion Condit who was completely gassed. This the same lousy officiating that was used in the last Miguel Torres fight. Torres was getting his ass handed to him like Condit was and they stopped the action to look at a cut! Hiromitsu should have won the fight but Rosenthal stepped in and called the fight for Condit with 15 seconds to go. The WEC sucks!
Without a doubt, Condit was on his way out, and the ref, should be fired. It shows in more than just the fight, it shows at the raising of the arm, and the pat on the back after the fight. A real ref, doesn’t show any bias. This was blatant bad ref’ing, great fight, but Condit did not win. Hiro was no more gassed than Condit, and yes, definitely the ref pulled Hiro off and forced a stand up 2 times almost immediately after Hiro got mount. The sport is being destroyed by bias ref’s.

Agreed They didnt want to lose their champion if it had gone to Decision Miura would have won. What a Farce.
I have to say,
I disagree with the remarks above. Carlos did not get thrown around like a rag-doll. I am not a Carlos Condit fan, I’m merely stating my observations about the fight. Damn right… Morgan makes sense.
