Lyoto is probably the most technically sound fighter in mma. he is not powerful, and he is not fast. but his technique is near perfect.(i only say that b/c perfection does not exist). his strikes have laser precision and his counters are absolute in their timing. when he lands his strikes they do not appear to be hard, but they land at points. if you notice, the last punch that turned rahsads lights out was not a closed fist. its a stiking technique that is commonly used by karate masters, and they strike below the ear where the jaw and the neck join. at first i thought he was boring, but my god…….he does it over and over and he is very intelligent with this style.

I wish the dragon woulda danced around evans knocked out ass and disrespected him a bit as evans is so fond of doing to others..Either way the karma train made its rounds last night and was a beautiful thing!

whats the big mouth corner man or whatever his name is shootin his mouth off that lyoto never faced a hard hitter like evans THE GUY THAT WAS FLAPPIN HIS GUMS ON THE PAY PER VUE PROMO. I WANT TO GET IN THE RING WITH HIM AND SHOW HIM WHAT I CAN DO TO HIS FACE.. I WONDER IF THE COCKEY BLACK MONKEY WILL DANCE AROUND LIKE A CLOWN ANY MORE. HE GOT HIS BLACK BEHIND STOMPED

Please, don’t give joshy a hard time, people. He might be away on his jollies (holidays), so I’ll answer for him. “dat boy a bitch” (He has difficulties with long sentences) Make of that what you will.

    Excellent finish.
The better fight, though, was between Machida and Rogan, for the microphone.

baydon..i agree with most of what you say, but you say machida is not fast…you are crazy, he throws those f-in kicks and nobody knows they are even coming, but anyways that was AMAZING, i was watchin it by myself since everyone else fell asleep from the hughes n serra fight, and i yelled at the TV loud enough that the neighbors probably heard me….rashad evans is a faggot and i am glad to see him fight someone worth a shit ( not that liddell didnt used to be) and he he got f-in slaughtered…Evans is never gonna see that title again, probably wont even get another shot!!!! BYE BYE rashad!!

Been a long time since I posted, but …

I gotta say I told you so.

Lyoto has matured in his comfortableness within the octagon, and this fight is simply evidence of that. I am not sure I whole heatedly agree with Rogan’s comments about how this has ushered in a new era to the sport. Strikers have been making a comeback for a while now. Not brawlers, STRIKERS. It’s just that there was such a heavy stigma placed on them in the early days, because so many of them lacked the fundamentals neccesary to prevent the take down, or to be comfortable on the ground. That at least I can agree with Rogan on.

Lyoto’s defense of his title aught to be rather interesting, as I believe it’s set to be against Quinton Jackson? (Correct me if I’m wrong.) Expect to see Quinton try and ground and pound against Lyoto, as he simply doesn’t have the technique to deal with Lyoto’s kicks. If Jackson can neutralize Machida on the ground, he has a good chance of success. Ala’ Round #1 of the Dan Henderson vs. Anderson Silva fight. Henderson won the first round, despite losing the fight.

Not that I’m saying Lyoto is going to lose, because frankly I think he’s going to be sitting in that seat for a while to come… whether or not Joshy Crispy (through proxy voice of Ol’ Ms. Thank you.) Thinks “dat boy a bitch”.

Lyoto has good groundgame… you can see some ground and pound from him when he fought Rich Franklin in Japan, 2003… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ewuXCEwLBE

Just an addendum: Lyoto does have a good ground game, I wasn’t saying he doesn’t. My comments about Jackson were more an analysis of the two fighter’s strengths and weaknesses relative to each other. Jackson is a tough, strong man, but his stand up is not even close to being as good as Machida’s. On the ground, Rampage has the opportunity to neutralize Machida’s advantage and use his strength to dominate the pace of the fight.

Jackson may try and rush Lyoto early, to trap him into a slug fest because of his power, but I don’t believe he’ll be able to do that successfully. Look at how ineffective he was against Forrest G. Lyoto is simply too slippery, which would be wasted effort on Jackson’s part if he fails and could potentially gas him in the later rounds. The better game plan is to take Machida down, and grind on him for several rounds, wear him down by dominating the top position. Alot of people are in love with the guard, but there is still a lot to be said for being on top, using your weight to push the other guy down, deliver damage to his head and ribs, and ear.
