Post Fight Interview
Recap
Thiago Alves (16-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) closed out his fight year with another signature victory — this time over fellow title hopeful Josh Koscheck (11-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC). Although Alves ultimately settled for a unanimous-decision victory (30-27, 29-28, 30-27), he had Koscheck — who filled in for an injured Diego Sanchez on just two weeks’ notice — in trouble throughout the fight. Koscheck was dropped in the first with a short left, he was continually knocked off balance with stinging leg kicks, and an onslaught of strikes in the third round had Koscheck staggered and in survival mode. Despite Alves’ success, though, Koscheck showed signs of life throughout the fight. His ever-improving stand-up game and powerful right hand connected often, but Alves survived and was never in any real trouble.

Nice spolier right below the fight. Idiots.
Maye your cheap ass will pay to watch it instead of waiting to see it on here cheap ass mf
Good as Alves is, Kos could, and should, have taken him down and stuck to what he is good at. Part of Koscheck’s appeal for me at least, is his disrespect and venom, neither of which he showed in this match. At the begining of the third round Kos came out smiling as if he wanted to be friends with Alves. not a good sign.
Alves’ kicking is excellent, powerful, fast and accurate. His punching is not as good in any of these three areas (although still not at all bad). GSP will run him ragged, and I’d be surprised if Alves lasts one round, possibly two. Apart from out gunning him in every department, GSP’s workrate would take him into uncharted territory. He hasn’t got the CV capacity to go with St Pierre, nor will he ever have lest he loses his explosiveness. In two years time look for Alves to be off the scene completely, or a jouneyman at best.
Thanks to RONIN5 for a brilliant site and keep up the good work.
ps. I enjoy watching Alves, good fighter, but he’ll suffer from people blowing smoke up his arse and he’ll believe his own hype. Mike Tyson syndrome.
ALVES IS A GREAT FIGHTER HIS STAND UP IS NASTY AND HE HAS GREAT TAKEDOWN DEFENSE
BUT I THINK GSP CAN BEAT HIM IN STAND UP AND PUT HIM ON HIS BACK WHENEVER HE FEELS LIKE IT..BUT ALVES HAS SEVEN IN A ROW THATS NO JOKE
