Having just watched the video myself, and watched the post fight interviews, I have to say I am impressed with Rashad Evans. This is another classic example of how in mixed martial arts, it is a game of chess.

I have to say, I think any claims that Chuck Liddell is washed up as a fighter, are a bit pre-mature. Especially if you are using this fight as evidence. Chuck looked spry, and was still punching powerfully. He simply got caught. It happens. It can happen to ANYONE. Including Rashad Evans.

It happened to Keith Jadein in May against Wand. It happened to Tim Silvia even more recently. These are not washed up fighters. They simply got caught.

It even happened, on a similar level to Brian Stann.

Rashad and his team did their homework, and Rashad was able to get a feel for Chuck’s timing, which Chuck did not change, and was able to capitalize on that. Congrats to Rashad for well executed game plan, and a great finish.

(P.S.) I feel like I must say that in this author’s humble opinion this is ALSO a prime example for how the sport needs to continue to evolve PAST some of the “big names” of yesterday.
