Even after the replay i couldn’t believe what just happened…lol That was a perfect example of anything can happen at any time in sports! I do think Chuck is heavily considering retirement now but I think he wants to go out with a win at-least so I expect to see him fight one more time anyways before he possibly becomes the next TANK ABBOT and just keeps embarrassing himself repeatedly every time he steps in the ring NOT knowing when to hang it up…

I realize that MMA is not boxing, but jesus….no one has ever told Chuck Liddell to keep his fucking hands up? No one has ever said, “Hey Chuck, ya know, when you come diving in for an uppercut you might not want to be slapping your thigh at the same time.” ? All Chuck needed to do was fight a competent striker to lose, he’s unorthodox and lazy and anyone with a decent boxing backround (Rampage, Rashad, Jardine) can beat him. He spent his time padding his record with wrestlers and getting more and more lax on his core boxing fundamentals. Having just watched the video myself, and watched the post fight interviews, I have to say I am impressed with Rashad Evans. This is another classic example of how in mixed martial arts, it is a game of chess.
I have to say, I think any claims that Chuck Liddell is washed up as a fighter, are a bit pre-mature. Especially if you are using this fight as evidence. Chuck looked spry, and was still punching powerfully. He simply got caught. It happens. It can happen to ANYONE. Including Rashad Evans.
It happened to Keith Jadein in May against Wand. It happened to Tim Silvia even more recently. These are not washed up fighters. They simply got caught.
It even happened, on a similar level to Brian Stann.
Rashad and his team did their homework, and Rashad was able to get a feel for Chuck’s timing, which Chuck did not change, and was able to capitalize on that. Congrats to Rashad for well executed game plan, and a great finish.
(P.S.) I feel like I must say that in this author’s humble opinion this is ALSO a prime example for how the sport needs to continue to evolve PAST some of the “big names” of yesterday. Had Chuck Lidell’s arsenal been filled with a few more bag of tricks in his stand up, such as the type of kicks, knees, and mui thai clinch, that are employeed by men like Anderson Silva, and Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans would have had a FAR more difficult time in adjusting to Chuck’s timing, and would have been far less likely to catch him with a punch like that, and he would have been able to open up his own powerful punches. Then again, that’s just one man’s opinion. Anyone who cares is welcome to share their thoughts on THAT.

Chuck is a good striker with used up potential and fighting drive. He came into this fight too confident, while suger evans came in prepared and cut. Rashad’s overall performance was a fucking disgrace to all fights in the UFC, he ran around and wasted chuck’s time with that chicken trot.
