Tavares had a number of good submission attempts in the first round, but Wiman came out firing in the second. He landed a series of shots early that backed Tavares off. Just before the finish, Tavares landed a right that sent Wiman back. Wiman was able to turn things around and land a crushing right on the chin that ended the bout.

You’re right, Tavares is a good fighter. They both had real good ground game and each tagged each other with a hard punch. I thought Tavares had him with the big one he landed & if Matt hadn’t launched like he did at that time I don’t know what would have happened.
But he did and he won.

lol your right, I dont have any proof about ball licking lol….he earned the win, im sure he put time and sweat in the gym also, im just angry that thiago who i see as a promising fighter lost to some guy off the ultimate fighter show who doesnt have a promising future even with this win. He obviously didnt think he was going to win since he started crying after the fight, there was probably a parade in his hometown, wherever that is.

I just saw it as those two were so stinkin’ similar & evenly matched it wasn’t funny. Matt moved from Tulsa about 1 1/2 yrs ago after the show ended and it seems like he seems a lot more serious now.
I don’t think Thiago is out by any means. They stood toe to toe & traded jiu jitsu like I only see once a year. It was best fight of the night because of those reasons.
I called one of my friends from back home & quite a few people from Matt’s fight were talking about the fights but there were no parades. But that’s partially because there are quite a few fight fans at GUTS. Kickboxing pro Thomas Longacre goes to the same church.
Tulsa’s got a big fighting community for some reason. I don’t know why. Maybe one reason is Oklahoma was one of the only venues that was able to host MMA fights in the 80’s when the UFC was in its early stages & not as regulated & acceptable at the time. By the late nineties 36 states banned MMA, including New York. It was mainly held in the Southern states until 2001 when the athletic commission sanctioned the sport in New Jersey.
In case you haven’t noticed it’s sort of hit the whole rest of the country. I’d bet a big chunk of Gracie’s students moved to anywhere in the U.S. to train fighters.
