I think the argument of Fedor vs Silva is dumb. Both fighters would call it dumb, both fighters respect each other and don’t even pay attention to rankings. Fedor said himself that he doesn’t pay attention to who is p4p best in the world. He just goes out their and wins fights.
Props to fedor for #1 being great #2 not getting involved in WHO is the p4p best argument.
I liked Emilianenko since I found him about 6 months ago. Great all around fighter, and his brother is a great one as well. I want to see more of him.
I fully expected this result, and pudgy Silva to be beat down, and completely owned, and he was. Something in Emilianenko’s body language about 6 seconds in, just before the first punch told me it was over.
If you watch his tapes you will often see Emilianenko gesture a verticle, up and down countering pumping wind up with both fists. When he does this I always look at my second hand on my watch because I know the second hand is measuring the remainder of the fight.
His stance as he turns his back to us at about 6 secs reminded me of this body language. At that moment he knew it was over, and just needed to unload, which is just what happened.
Bring on the next easy payday for the hardest working professional in the sport….hope you get a lucky elbow strike on the third thrown punch of the fight, or otherwise it is over.

Fedor’s best competition is randy, Period. Randy has a well versed ground game as does fedor. And on top of that randy has very good dirty boxing. However, the big factor that will probably kill randy if they fight won’t be his age. I think it will be the lack of a cage to push fedor up against to utilize his dirty boxing and some of his ground-n-pound. Couture has fought some heavy hitters and came out on top Sylvia, Liddell, etc. So i’m not too worried about Couture getting caught i think he’s smart enough to stay away from Fedor’s power and tie him up and go to the ground.
However, on the same note. Fedor has fought and beaten very good wrestlers that are much larger than Couture, Mark Coleman being one of them. However, where those wrestlers have strength over Couture they do not have the same smart fighting style that couture does.
So i’ll say it first and foremost right here. If the Couture/Fedor fight ever becomes reality this is how i see it.
If Couture can get the take down and stay on top of Fedor then Couture has a damn good shot at winning the fight. However, if fedor takes Couture down it will be over, more than likely within the first round.
Listen, Fedor is obviously top dog now. But do not underestimate Couture’s boxing. Can Fedor fight exceptional wrestlers (Coleman)? Sure. But I don’t put any of those guys at the particular tier that Couture maintains (as far as ground game). I agree with past comment, age is the bigger issue.
Obviously there’s no doubt who is the top dog now, it’s Fedor no matter what anybody says. FE cant fight everybody at once who says they’ve got a chance. At most he can squeeze out 4 fights per year, and under 1 year’s time there will arrive 4 new contenders who claim they deserve a shot at him. He’s been fighting the best ones available one by one most of the time for a long while now and hasn’t lost. It’s not like tennis where you can work your way through the top 10 in two week’s time you know..
I realise that Randy Couture is still under contract with UFC and Fedor with another company but why not do a cross promotional match. it would be the mma event of the century any the millenium. Imagine all the ppv buys, it could sell out the biggest arena. it would be the ultimate paycheck for both companies splitting profits between both companies. They could even do it twice once in a cage another in a ring.

Fedor has proved that he is the complete fighter ready to take on any mixed MMA artist in the world. He has something that all other fighters have to train hard to achieve and that is unique combinations of Sambo wrestling and stand up fighting. This takes years of disciplined training with utmost respect to various art forms. It is a pleasure to watch such a great artist like fedor demostrate his skills.

I dont know why you would say silva against fedor because fedor fights at 45 pounds heavier than silva and would destroy him if he tried to clinch him. and second to say he hasnt fought anyone at coutures level on the ground? he owned antonio rodrigo on the ground twice and he has the best ground game in mma. he also owned kevin randelman on the ground after he was slammed on his head and kevin is a 2 time ncaa d1 wrestling champion and probly one of the most powerful wrestlers in mma. i dont think randy could keep him down even if he got on top. plus noone trains like fedor and at 31 hes still peaking. by the time they fight he will be even better and randy will just get older. and for anyone that thinks fedor doesnt have a chin… go look at the hit he took from fujita. one of the hardest hits you will ever see and he recovered in like 10 seconds and ended up beating him after almost being knocked out. It is very difficult to catch Fedor, Nogueira couldn’t do it 3 times. Randy Couture might have a 5% chance if he can get him cut or maybe go thru 5 rounds of torturing(needs tremendous stamina from 32yo and a 46 yo) and get a decision like Rampage vs Griffin. Or the Russian Mafia suddenly kidnapped Fedor’s wife and daughter and threaten him to take a fall becas the odds is going to be high and there is money to be made??
Other than that, I think “The Natural” needs to be a bit supernatural and perform some sort of miracle for the victory.
Even if Fedor was victorious, I think some people would still deny by saying the age difference and other excuses. Truth is, He is the best I have seen and people should look at the fighter not where he is from or whether he got some fat padding on him or not. The guy is so tough even other pro fighters attend his master class around Europe to learn MMA and Sambo. Thats commitment and love for the sport for yah. One more thing Fedor dominates his weight class in any organization he is in, so other HW will move weight class or go to other organization to get a championship belt on their waist. They know they got no chance of the belt if Fedor is there. Now he just signed with Affliction in the US and everyone wants to fight the best but after a while, you’ll see. Randy Couture is a great fighter. But I think he has lost a step in his age. He will need to train his ass off to compete with Fedor. Fedor is too fast and too strong for Randy. If Brock Lesnar were to learn some real technique then maybe he will have the speed and the wrestling ability to fight some of the great fighters in MMA. Lesnar was able to give Mir a few good shots and actually held Mir down, but he got caught and he didn’t know the technique to escape a knee bar. Maybe in a couple years Lesnar vs Fedor will be a good fight. But for now Randy has a slight chance, but I think Fedor takes it in the third with his ground and pound.

That was most enjoyable. I always liked the fact that Fedor looks like He just woke up from a nap. He’s completely calm at all times, even on the bottom he’s just waiting for an opening. Funny my neighbor looks exactly like him, I told him so a while back and he smiled said ya, that’s what the guys at work call him.

Anyone counting couture out from the start is a moron IMHO. I understand couture is old blah blah blah. We’ve heard this numerous times and he’s still came out on top. He’s always been an underdog and people have always misjudged fights against him because of it (Liddell, Silvia, Gonzaga, Ortiz). Do i really need to name anymore?
This is how i see it you can flame all you want but i think most will agree.
Couture has a comfort zone that most fighters can’t get him out of and that is pushing his opponent against the cage and landing some shots then taking them down and staying on top. He wins rounds this way and always has. He’s defiantly not going to knock out fedor and he probably won’t submit him. But if he can utilize the same gameplan that he always does then he has a very good chance at winning.
Now you have to look at the opposite end of the spectrum.
Fedor isn’t a guy that is easily overwhelmed and taken down. And even if that chance does happen he usually doesn’t stay on the bottom for very long before he finds an escape and gets back to his feet or pulls a reversal. Not to mention they won’t be fighting in a cage if this fight ever does take place. Which can become a major deciding factor in couture’s downfall. Couture knows the octagon he knows how to utilize the fence to his advantage. If they fight they will be in a ring and that will hinder Couture’s game dramatically IMO.
In conclusion. Fedor will more than likely win this fight i’d give this fight a 70% chance in favor of Fedor. More than likely will be stopped in the 4th round via armbar.
And to the haters that say that Couture couldn’t do what fedor did to silvia. Did you watch the Couture Silvia fight? Couture did the same exact thing he knocked tim down with a good punch. The difference is that he didn’t keep pummeling silvia and then go for the submission he just dove in for it when tim still had a clear head. If he would have tagged Tim with a couple more shots before he took his back it probably would’ve ended in almost the exact same way. But it’s too little too late now. Flame on people!

For an organization that represents over 90% of MMA (according to FORBES) and has 5 fully established weight divisions in which 4 of the champions are ranked as best in their division (even by WAMMA), I would have to say that what you just said dustin is laughable. Not to mention that they dominate the top 10 rankings in almost every division.
I loved the affliction show, it was great, but please, those fighters are going to be recycled for the next two shows and then what, (thats if Affliction even decides to continue after their 3 established shows). Im going to enjoy Affliction while it lasts, but when talking about organizations, and competition level within organizations, there is not one that compares to the UFC, thats just the way it is. Its the other way around dustin, every other organization has some great fighters, thats it.

I don’t get it, Tim in his interview said that he was comming up with his gameplan and Fedor got off first. In most of his fights Fedor always throws the left, quick and loaded with lot’s of pepper. I would have to say he should have expected to be hit really hard early in the fight and he should have been more careful. Now as far as Randy fighting Fedor, I don’t think he could handle his ground and pound, Fedor is the best and it will take either an act of GOD or a huge mistake from Fedor for him to be taken down for a few more years!
When Fedor fought Nogueira early in Pride, Nogueira was on top of him and Fedor just rolled him over. Also Mark Coleman, Kevin Randleman, these guys aren’t slouches when it comes to wrestling. They did ok but did not dominate Fedor. Randy is one of the best at controlling a fighter but Fedor is really slippery and can escape a lot easier. Fedor also fights his way out of holds and at the bottom. He kicks, punches to distract the other fighter then next thing you know Fedor is on top of you.
The UFC has some of the best fighters in the world. But I think they concentrate to much on Americans to make it popular. GSP, Anderson Silva, Noguiera, are all foreigners and are champions in the sport. In order to be the best organization they should try harder to get the best. They had a chance to get Fedor but didn’t. Now they have competition for pay per views and so on. I think the ones who will lose out are us, the fans. We want to see the best fighters fight agaisnt each other but can’t, we have to settle for second best. The only division in the UFC where it’s unpredictable is the Light heavy weight division. All other divisions you pretty much know who’s gonna win. Silva can kick ass, GSP can kick ass, and Noguiera can take an ass kicking but still come out on top. So I think we will have on-going debates on who is the best but they will never fight each other.

barnett is the besy contender to fedor. i rate him #2 HW in the world but the reason he’d have a chance is that all fedor’s fights go the ground at some point and are decided there. barnett is a wiz on the ground and is 250+lbs.
arlovski has a chance to KO fedor from stand up - although no one has done it yet. that being said AA’s chin i not his strong point and if arlovski get hit like big timmy did - it’ll be lights out - even though fedor prefers to choke or sub someone after rocking them those punches that tim got would put AA to sleep before he hits the mat
