Synopsis
Jake Tyler has recently moved to Orlando, Florida with his family to support his younger brother’s shot at a professional tennis career. Jake was a star athlete on the football team at home, but in this new city he is an outsider with a reputation for being a quick tempered brawler. Making an attempt to fit in, at the invitation of a flirtatious classmate, Baja, Jake goes to a party where he is unwittingly pulled into a fight with a bully named Ryan McDonald. While he is defeated and humiliated in the fight, a classmate introduces himself to Jake and tells him about the sport known as Mixed Marshall Arts (MMA). He sees a star in Jake and asks that he meet with his mentor, Jean Roqua. It is immediately apparent to Jake that MMA is not street fighting, but rather an art form he wants to master. Roqua will take Jake under his wing, but it is up to Jake to find the patience, discipline, willingness and reason within him to succeed. For Jake, there is much more at stake than mere victory. His decision will not just settle a score; it will define who he is.
Analysis
Round 1. Both fighters come out strong and Tate gets a takedown against the cage. Tate lands in Maxwell’s full guard. Tate fights to move to full mount and eventually makes it. Maxwell tries to push off the cage and rolls to get out. Tate grabs an arm for an arm bar and Maxwell fights her off by locking up her head. Tate pulls the arm bar straight just as the round ends.
Round 2. Tate gets another takedown, but Maxwell tangles her up in the process. Tate moves to full mount and starts throwing punches. Maxwell gets Tate locked with her legs but Tate pulls away and is back to side mount.
Round 3. Tate goes right for the takedown again and Maxwell tries to fight it off with a few kicks. Tate pushes them up against the cage. The ref separates them and takes Maxwell straight back to the cage. Maxwell maneuvers around to Tate’s back and ties up an arm. Tate manages to hang on to the end of the round, however.
Analysis
A submission specialist, Arroyo was in control of the first part of the first, even as they fought on their feet. But once Brown hit Arroyo with a straight right, Brown was in command the rest of the way. Brown moved down to welterweight and seemed more powerful than he had during The Ultimate Fighter at 185. He was hurting Arroyo with every shot he threw. He pummeled Arroyo, using a series of elbows to force the stoppage.
Analysis
Grove dominated the veteran in all aspects, battering Tanner on the feet and in the clinch. He landed knees, kicks, elbows and punches in a dominating performance. Grove blistered Tanner with a knee in the first that wobbled the former middleweight champion badly.
